In addition to that, Dwayne Hay is a personal trainer for the facility. Dwayne Hay believes that that being a personal trainer is an important responsibility, and he would like to share what he feels are some of the most valuable traits a good trainer should have.
  • Have an education certificate. Dwayne Hay says that one of the most important things that that a trainer should have is an extensive personal fitness education from an accredited university. Dwayne Hay says your trainer should have a degree in Exercise Physiology or a related field. A trainer should also have a certificate, as this indicates that they are staying up-to-date with the latest fitness and health trends.
  • Have a relationship with medical professionals. Dwayne Hay says that it is also important for a trainer to have a network of medical professionals, as they should never work on their own to attempt to heal fitness injuries or recommend diets or supplements.
  • Have an understanding of programing. Dwayne Hay says that the best trainer will have a good understanding of programing. This means that a trainer will know to alternate which parts of the body their clients strengthen in a given session. Reading…Give It A Shot Partner Dwayne Hay

Any professional will tell you that education is important, but too often athletes who dream of a sports career do not see the value of education. There have been many programs designed to encourage kids to stay in school and pick up reading. Many times, the programs use athletes or celebrities for endorsement and demonstrate to kids that even icons find education and reading important.

Former Calgary Flames hockey player Dwayne Hay found himself in that very position. Dwayne Hay found himself taking part in Calgary’s Reading…Give It A Shot program. The program promotes education for kids of all ages but is specifically targeted towards kids in an elementary school level.

Dwayne Hay takes part in Reading…Give It A Shot which is developed through the Calgary Educational Partnership Foundation. Dwayne Hay was introduced to the program through Calgary Flames Hockey Club which has been one of Calgary Educational Partnership Foundation’s partners since 1995.

Dwayne Hay continues to support the program because reading opens children up to new ideas, cultures, and ways of thinking. Dwayne Hay encourages kids to get involved early. Dwayne Hay also encourages parents to get involved in reading in order to lead by example.

Dwayne Hay hopes more children will get involved. The program is easy. What Dwayne Hay likes about Reading…Give It A Shot is that children can read anything. They just have to record the minutes they spent reading and have parents, teachers, or another involved adult sign off on their tracking sheet.

There are more rewards for the children than simply improving their reading skills. For every one hundred minutes children complete reading, they receive a special bookmark celebrating the Flames hockey season. Dwayne Hay enjoys the Reading…Give It A Shot program because it combines his love for hockey with the value of education. Dwayne Hay also sees the special bookmarks as a great reward, especially for child hockey fans.

Former Athlete Dwayne Hay Pushes Kids to Read

Reading is an important skill and comes in use for building a professional career. Even if a student is not academically driven but rather is physically motivated and dreams of becoming a star athlete, reading is still important. Dwayne Hay encourages kids to read by supporting the Reading…Give It A Shot Program.

Dwayne Hay wants all kids to read. It is an important skill even for athletes. Athletes are signed to contracts and that requires reading skills. Athletes are often sought as public speakers or partners which means they need to be knowledgeable and skilled in a number of fields. Short of having someone explain everything constantly, Dwayne Hay knows he learns about many things through reading.

Dwayne Hay finds the Reading…Give It A Shot program to be beneficial and rewarding for students. As an athlete he endorses it but because the program is partners with the Calgary Flames, he has previous experience with the program when he was a professional NHL athlete. Students are rewarded for their reading with Flames bookmarks for every one hundred hours of reading they complete.

Dwayne Hay no longer appears to talk about the program with students but remains aware of the program and continues to support it as a community program. Dwayne Hay encourages reading on a personal level because he knows the benefits of reading are numerous. When children love to read, they gain additional knowledge outside of what they learn at school. What Dwayne Hay really liked about the program was that children could read anything. Dwayne Hay liked how children could read everything from books and magazines to newspapers or things on the internet. And while physical fitness and physical activity are important to the former Calgary Flames hockey player, Dwayne Hay pushes children to read and exercise their minds as well.

As an elite trainer, there are several values that remain important to Dwayne Hay. First and foremost, Dwayne Hay wants athletes to be hard working. Hockey players do not make it to the NHL if they do not put their all into their workouts. Dwayne Hay also works with integrity. He is honest with his trainees. He is not brutal in his training but he does not sugarcoat the truth. Trainees hear from Dwayne Hay exactly what they need to do to achieve athletically. Dwayne Hay also knows how to train. From his own years training and practicing as a NHL Calgary Flames player, Dwayne Hay has the knowledge and experience of success to pass on to aspiring future NHL players.
