Dwayne Hay Committed to Building Bodies and Minds

Dwayne Hay works as the Hockey Program Coordinator at Strive Fitness and Nutrition in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Through the program, Dwayne Hay uses his expertise in hockey to improve upon athletes’ skills and abilities so they can become superior athletes and reach their ultimate goal: the NHL. Dwayne Hay is committed to helping his trainees succeed and helps them work on coordination, speed, and strength, while also guiding them to work on team plays and appreciate the benefits of a hard and rigorous workout.

The key to a professional athlete is a balance between proper nutrition and building the body. However, as much as Dwayne Hay focuses on the physical aspect of building athletes, he encourages students to not give up on the academic portions of their lives. He encourages all students to exercise their minds, to read, and to further their education.

When Dwayne Hay played for the Calgary Flames, he was a partner of the Calgary Educational Partnership Foundation. The Calgary Flames is a partner of the CEPF and Dwayne Hay was one of the athletes that spoke to students and encouraged them to participate in the Reading…Give It A Shot program. The program rewards students for every one hundred minutes spent reading with a special Calgary Flames bookmark special to that year’s hockey season.

While Dwayne Hay no longer participates in the program because he no longer plays for the Calgary Flames, he still believes reading is important. While many student athletes dream of becoming professional athletes, Dwayne Hay knows the chances of being drafted are quite slim so he encourages all students to further their education because when sports fail to provide a career, they will need a strong educational platform to build a life for themselves. Dwayne Hay encourages reading because it is the greatest tool for opening up new doors and interesting fields for students to study.
